Fireworks are pretty things that we use to celebrate special occasions like the Fourth of July or New Year’s Eve. They’re made by combining different chemicals together.
First, the people who make fireworks mix together things like gunpowder and different colored chemicals. They put the mixture into a tube or a ball, which is called a shell.
Then, they add a fuse to the shell. The fuse is like a string that burns really quickly. When the fuse is lit, it sends fire into the shell and makes the fireworks go off.
Finally, the people who make fireworks put the shells into a big metal container called a mortar. They light the fuse and the fireworks shoot up into the sky and make pretty colors and shapes.
