How to explain photosynthesis to a five years old?

Photosynthesis is the process that plants use to make their own food. They do this by using energy from the sun to turn water and carbon dioxide into sugar and oxygen. The sugar is the food that the plant uses to grow and the oxygen is what we breathe.

The process of photosynthesis happens in the leaves of the plant. Inside the leaves, there are tiny little things called chloroplasts. Chloroplasts are like the plants’ stomachs, they use the energy from the sun to make food for the plant.

To make food, the plant takes in water through its roots and carbon dioxide through tiny holes on the leaves called stomata. The water and carbon dioxide are then mixed together inside the chloroplasts, using the energy from the sun to make sugar and oxygen.

In simple words, Photosynthesis is like a magic that plants do to make their own food, they use sun, water and air to do this magic. And that’s why plants are so important for us, because they make oxygen for us to breathe and food for us to eat.
