The closest galaxy to the Milky Way is the Canis Major Dwarf galaxy, located about 25,000 light years away. The second closest is the Sagittarius Dwarf galaxy, located about 80,000 light years away. The Large and Small Magellanic Clouds, which are visible in the southern hemisphere, are also relatively close at about 160,000 and 200,000 light years away, respectively.
